CMU’S PRESIDENT’S WORKS SELECTED FOR PUBLICATION

Dr. Dominic Mwenja, CMU President, had his book titled: Social Networks accepted for publication. His book comes at a time when social networks have come to define the new media and how individuals, businesses and organizations connect with each other.

The book focuses on Top Management Team Social Networks and how they are affected by the centrality of the founder of a company within the organizational structure. This concept helps explain how the centrality of the founder in turn affects the behavioral integration among the top management team. Details on how to get the book will be posted in a future posting.

Dr. Mwenja’s article on Board Influence on the Strategic Direction of Non-Profit Organizations has also been accepted for publication by the Journal of Business Strategy, Vol. 4, April 2009. His co-author, Dr. Alfred Lewis is also a leading figure and professor of strategy.

By looking at strategic formulation influence from the Board of Directors of non-profit organizations, the article helps us understand how the strategic thinking processes of the leaders of the organization are shaped and how board influence may hinder or help in the achievement of a non-profit organizations various goals.

CMU Opens Digital Media Department


California Miramar University has given the green light to open a Digital Media Department that will produce a wide range of video productions covering the course content of many of the University’s key professors along with other projects.

The first program on Human Resources Management is currently being developed featuring well known Professor Tony Viana and his exciting course content. A slate of additional productions are being scheduled over the next 12 months.

The University will purchase all the equipment needed to complete the high end video productions including high definition video cameras, a Final Cut Pro Editing suite and an array of lights, green screens, audio equipment, music libraries and sound effects libraries that will allow the department to possess complete video production capabilities on the various projects.

CMU IS SELECTED AS PART OF THE HERO’S HOMECOMING CONSORTIUM


California Miramar University was selected as one of the key members of the Hero’s Homecoming Consortium last October by the Camp Minowlake Foundation, a San Diego based non-profit organization. The Camp Minowlake Foundation is headed by Dr. Janathin Miller who was one of the founders of California State University – San Marcos.

CMU has been active in the local Veteran community and has implemented a Military Spouse Scholarship program designed to offer spouses of active duty military full and partial educational scholarships while there spouses are actively serving their country.

The Hero’s Homecoming Consortium has been working with U.S. House of Representative Bob Filner (Republican) who is the Chairman of the Houses Veteran Affairs Committee, since August of 2007, to implement a Homecoming retreat designed for returning Iraqi and Afghanistan Veterans and their families. The goal of the effort is to lovingly assist these veterans in their reintegration into civilian life and to help them re-establish bonds with their families after months or years of war zone based active duty.

California Miramar University Certified to Deliver TOEFL Testing

California Miramar University received its Certification from Educational Training Services (ETS), to be an official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) national testing site.

ETS has given CMU a year long testing schedule where students can come to our testing center in San Diego and complete testing their English Language Skills under the supervision of CMU testing personnel.

CMU plans to add an English as a Second Language (ESL) program in the future, and the TOFEL testing Certification helps to bring awareness to CMU in the area of the teaching and testing of English Language skills.

California Miramar University 2007 Graduation


Graduation Ceremonies for the 2007 gradating class of California Miramar University were held in the Randle Ballroom and Foyer in the East Tower of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1 Marketplace, on beautiful San Diego Bay.

The Commencement Speaker was Dr. Patricia Hsieh, President of San Diego Miramar College. CMU President, Dr. Dominic Mwenja also delivered an inspirational speech to the 2007 graduates.

The graduating class included a truly International collection of students from the United States, Switzerland, Turkey, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The Commencement was followed by a lavish sit down dinner and picture taking session.

As part of the two day ceremonies the students attended tours of Hewlett Packard’s national headquarters and a site-seeing tour of San Diego including a tour of the World War II Aircraft Carrier Midway.

CAPPS Annual Conference





California Miramar University attended the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS) 23rd Annual Conference October 16-18, 2007 at the at the Hyatt Regency - La Jolla in beautiful La Jolla district of San Diego.

The three day event allowed owners, directors and top management from California’s proprietary sector to gather and discuss those issues unique to California. With approximately 300 attendees, representing independently owned California schools, the CAPPS Annual Conference was a great opportunity to meet decision-makers from the largest proprietary sector in the country.

CAPPS is the oldest and largest association of private postsecondary schools in California with over 300 School and Allied Members who provide valuable vocational and professional training, products and services to Californians.

CAPPS works directly with the Governor's Office, the State Legislature, the Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education and the other regulatory entities. CAPPS has solid working relationships with the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC), EdFund, California Postsecondary Education Commission (CPEC), and accrediting commissions.

CAPPS provides professional and continuing education for school administrators, admissions representatives, and educators.
